J and I went to Midtown Global Market (again) last night. We love the place. We can eat what we want and we can each easily get a meal for under $10. It was a nice little Valentine's Day treat. When I'm there, I often eat at Los Ocampo. To me they have the best cheap Mexican in town. And, everything is made fresh to order. But, for some reason, last night I decided to have La Loma tamales. Normally, La Loma has great tamales, but my experience last night was terrible. The service was slow and unhelpful and I had to ask for the tamales to be heated up. Then I started wondering. The tamales came out of a big metal tray (like a chafing dish) that I'm guessing was supposed to be kept warm (but it wasn't). How long had those tamales been sitting there? Aren't there rules about how long food can sit out after it has been prepared? After the tamales spent some time in the microwave (on a Styrofoam plate, no less), I tried to eat them. Of course, the were unevenly heated. They were exceedingly dry and some parts were overcooked. Needless to say, I didn't finish them. Instead I opted for dessert - yummy, yummy, yummy, warm from the oven, pineapple upside down cake from the Starlight Cafe.
MGM, we've heard about your troubles. We are doing our best to support you, eating there probably, twice a month. But, you gotta make sure this stuff doesn't happen. Crappy food, service, and potential mishandling of food, is going to be the death of you.
